discern this

We are an Easter People, and even at the grave, Alleluia is our song.

About August 10, 2011

Most people who know much of anything about me know that I am Catholic. People I’ve known for more than five years knew me as a Roman Catholic. People I’ve met since then know me as an Independent Catholic. As of February 2, 2013, people know me as a deacon. Eventually, people will know me as a priest.

The blog name comes from my year with the Mercy Volunteer Corps. I cannot tell you how many times during the year we heard the term discern, and it became somewhat of a running joke among the four of us, the Baltimore Girls, who lived in community and volunteered in different places in the city. At the end of the year, we made tee shirts with some of our favorite lines and expressions. The front of the shirt read Discern this. I still have the shirt, and it makes me so happy.

I don’t know what you’ll get when you land here, reflections on the readings, struggles I’m facing, good things that have happened, prayers, maybe a month or two with no updates (hopefully not), and sermons now that I’m preaching occasionally. Whatever you find, I ask you to keep me in your thoughts and in your prayers. Lord knows I need ‘em.
